I know human beings are inherently selfish, but PLEASE!!!

Ok there's been some illness of selfishness that's been going around the internet... It must be contagious or something... But that's a misconception for ya, ends up running amok and everyone gets the wrong idea in their heads.

For those of you who have no idea what in the blazes I'm talking about, I'll let you in on the not-so-recent news: Midnight Sun (The story by Stephenie Meyer, being Edward's point of view of the happenings of the first book. Wow, this clarification took longer to explain than the actual sentence...) was leaked onto the internet.

If you've heard this news, you also must've heard or maybe even thought something rather akin to "Stephenie is punishing all of us for the wrongdoings of one person!" An easy, albeit selfish, conclusion to come to. But in case no one has let you in on it (though it's not a secret), here's the scoop:

Stephenie was never punishing us for anything!

This is something people need to understand... I did from the beginning! I never understood why people were saying she was punishing us or anything of the sort! She's taking a step back for the sake of the story itself. That's a mark of a great writer in my book (no pun intended)!

She made the right decision in putting it on hold.

She started the whole thing for herself in the first place and I believe that's how she should finish it, so what the fans read is what she indended the essence of the story to be, not what came out as a result of pressure to just get it done with. Its a highly emotional story and you can't write a story like that without the right feelings inside yourself.

Another thing, I'm sure she knows that we'd all love to hear the full story. Alot of people seem to think that she is ignorant of this. She knows how much her fans love her writing. However that's not really the factor involved here.

And even though we all want to read it, we can't be selfish in this. We need to ask ourselves: "Do we want this story to have the same quality and passion that made us love the others?"

OF COURSE WE DO!!!

Would we love the series as much if it were another streamline story that's been done one trillion times over again? No. We loved this story for many reasons, mainly just the overall quality and love Stephenie's put into these novels! These stories have heart. They have something for everyone to enjoy. If it were just another streamline vampire novel, not many people would've looked twice at it. What makes us pick these novels up again and again? The overall composition of the story. The passion and all over great feeling we get from it.

These feelings don't pop out of thin air. They aren't the easiest things to write well. So many writers have tried and failed to pull off emotions because they didn't have it in themselves at the time.

Think about it, when you're writing something in your blog, like that one really cute guy who sits in front of you in math class turned around and talked to you...and actually KNEW YOUR NAME! Or for the guys, the really hot head cheerleader you've been crushing on for over a year agreed to go to prom with you. Would this mean anything to you without emotion? No.
Would you be writing it down emotionless going:

"Yeah, he/she talked to me today... blah blah blah..."

I think not. It would be something akin to:

"OMFG!!! You'll NEVER GUESS WHAT HAPPENED!!! *insert name here* talked to me today!!! TALKED! To ME!!!! AHHHH!!!!!"

Without the right emotion its as exciting as if you were saying:

"Yeah... I brushed my dog's teeth this morning..."

Without emotion its nothing. You like to experience things because of the feelings you get when you do. And if something is worth the time it takes to experience it, its worth the time it takes to make that something the best experience it can be.

I believe that Midnight Sun is something worth experiencing... Its worth the wait to experience it the way it was meant to be experienced. If Stephenie needs to step back, take a breather and let her emotions guide her way back to writing it the way it was meant to be written, so be it. I say let her take all the time she needs.

I know humans have the tendancy to make everything about themselves, but this is ridiculous. Get over it people. It's honestly not all about you. Be patient and it'll come when it comes.

I don't know about you, but I'll be waiting with open arms when it does...

Hello. This is urcoolcarrie from the lexicon. You, my friend, are brilliant. You said absolutely everything I have been thinking for so long. Stephenie is not punishing her fans. She is putting Midnight Sun on hold because of how hurt she is. I think that she should take her time.

Also, I hate it how people keep saying that she "owes us so much." What? No. If anyone owes something, its her fans to her. Stephenie has let us into her mind and given us stories that have changed many peoples lives for the better. She owes us nothing.

Anyway, that's all I have to say on that subject. Thank you for posting a link to this on the Twilight Lexicon so I could see it. :)
